Feb 20, 2009 (newstodate): Dan-Invest, a Danish organisation investing in agroindustrial projects in regions including Russia and Eastern Europe, is still planning a massive airlift of 20,000 pigs from Denmark to Russia, destined for breeding at its five joint ventures in Russia.
Earlier plans envisaged the launch of operations from October, 2007, using Denmark's Billund Airport as the departure point for a series of weekly or even twice-weekly freighter operations to sites in Russia's Krasnodar and Tambov Regions.
The project was, however, first halted by delayed completion of the new pig farms in Russia, and later the global financial crisis hit the time-table of the project.
-We are now seeking new channels of financing, including emission of new shares in the project, and plans are to use fresh capital to buy out our current Russian partner. After that the project will be re-activated and a fresh plan for the airlift operation will be finalised, says Frank Wennerberg, Dan-Invest.
According to Mr Wennerberg, the financial issues will be solved within one or two months, and the actual start of operations will then take place by early summer, 2009.
