Feb 27, 2009 (newstodate): Lithuania's Vilnius International Airport has named Tomas Vaisvila as its new Director General, with effect from February 24, 2009.
Taking up his office at a most critical stage in the airport's history, Mr Vaisvila will steer the airport through the effects from the bankruptcy of flyLAL that has more than halved the traffic at the airport and cut it off from most of the international destinations offered prior to the demise.
The situation will be further demanding as KLM withdraws from the route between Amsterdam and Vilnius from May 4, 2009.
On the positive side, Brussels Airlines will launch four weekly services between Vilnius and Brussels from March 30, 2009.
