Feb 25, 2009 (newstodate): European Capital of Culture 2009, Lithuania's capital Vilnius has been virtually cut off from most European air traffic after the demise of flyLAL on January 23, 2009.
Only nine out of EU's toal of 27 capitals can now be reahced by direct flights from Vilnius as flyLAL is grounded and several other operators have reduced frequencies on their routes.
Today Vilnius Airport has only 23 daily flight operations compared to 57 on the day flyLAL folded its wings.
