Feb 18, 2009 (newstodate): Starting construction work in 2009, Croatia's Zagreb Airport will open a new passenger terminal by the end of 2012.
The new 65,600 sq m terminal, envisaged in the master plan developed by Scott Associates in 2006, will have 12 airbridges and an annual capacity of handling up to 3.3 million passengers.
Serving 2.2 mio passengers in 2008, the airport has seen traffic and passenger volumes growing at a fast rate over the last recent years and will need the new terminal to cope with its expected emergence as a favorite Balkan gateway.
The airport's 3,252 m runway is equipped with a CAT-IIIb instrument landing system installed in 2004.
