Feb 25, 2009 (newstodate): Plans repeatedly aired since 1989 for direct non-stop Boeing 747 flights by Baltia Air Lines between New York JFK and St Petersburg, Russia, are resurfacing again in 2009.
The US DOT has reportedly approced the airline's application for launching services between the two destinations, and the carrier now waits for FAA to follow suit.
If all permits are landed, the carrier, owned by a Latvian-born US citizen, may launch services from this summer with a Boeing 747-200 aircraft.
Further down the line are plans for routes from New York to Moscow, Kiev, Minsk, and Riga.
