Feb 25, 2009 (newstodate): Aeroflot has repeatedly confirmed its interest in taking part in the tender for 92 percent of the stake in Czech carrier CSA - but will need a European partner to qualify.
According to EU statutes, carriers in the EU must prove that majority ownership remains with companies registered in the EU, so in order to qualify for participation in the tender Aeroflot must team up with a European partner.
According to reports in the Czech press, Aeroflot has so far not succeeded in forming a consortium to be registered in EU, and thus will not qualify for participation.
The EU Commission is currently looking into a similar issue with Hungarian carrier Malev where ownership recently changed as KrasAir went bancrupt and its ownership in Malev was transferred to a Russian development bank.
