Feb 17, 2009 (newstodate): Despite the crash-landing of the country's economy, new Icelandic cargo GSSA Cargo Express remains upbeat about prospects for sustained growth.
With the low-cost airline Iceland Express as its launch customer, Cargo Express set up business in November 2008 with offices in Reykjavik city and at Keflavik Airport.
-Cargo Express is doing quite well despite the economic problems we are having in Iceland. Thus out export figues with Iceland Express are more than twice the volumes in Janunary 2008, says Robert Tomasson, Cargo Express managing director and one of the company's founders.
-We have been very well received in the Icelandic market, and have brought solutions to the seafood export market that have not been available before, based on our extensive European partnership network.
-The bottle-neck to our sustained growth remains limited cargo capacity, but we are working on solutions there as well although it is still a little early to make any announcements.
-Iceland's economic down-turn has hit the import business the worst, but I am sure that with a new and improved Iceland you will see a new and improved air cargo market emerging as well. At least I am quite optimistic on behalf of Cargo Express, says Mr Tomasson.
