Dec 02, 2009 (newstodate): The Ukrainean civil aviation authorities have hardened their stand on aging aircraft in the country's aircraft registry.
Over the past 18 months, nearly half of the country's total of 1,200 aircraft have been removed from the registry due to lack of compliance with today's aircraft safety requirements.
The new policy has hit hard at the country's cargo carriers: in 2007 there was a total of 54 cargo carriers with Ukrainean-registered aircraft.
The number fell to 48 in 2008, and by the start of 2009 the number had dropped to 38, of which only 35 are now still in operation.
