Dec 11, 2009 (newstodate): SAS Cargo's new express cargo product, EuropExpress, launched on April 1, 2009, came off to a weak start.
-Timing was a crucial issue in launching a new product, and we were not exactly favored by the trends in the airfreight industry, says Leif Rasmussen, SAS Cargo CEO.
-Consequently, the EuropXpress did not perform as well as we had hoped and expected, but I have no doubts that it will become a success, once recovery strikes firm ground again.
-Our new express product hinges on the penetration of e-freight, and here the market's response has indeed been strong, even if e-freight is still an option only for our customers, says Mr Rasmussen.
The express product aimed at for shipments of up to 79 kilos with no special handling requirements in order to speed up transfer in handling terminals and avoid peak-hour bottlenecks.
First introduced in Scandinavia, EuropeXpress was to be rolled out to other European e-freight destinations later in 2009, but this process was postponed due to the market situation.
