Dec 01, 2009 (newstodate): The outlook for Sweden's air cargo market remains rather bleak, but after all Christmas is generating a peak.
-Compared to last year, the current seasonal peak is rather modest, but anyhow it is noticeable in volumes, says Johan Sundin, SAS Cargo Business Intelligence Manager.
-Volumes in 2009 have been hard hit by the current economic crisis, down 20-30 percent, y-o-y, and while the situation is still volatile, we have noted a cautious optimism among forwarders concerning 2010. No-one, however, expects anything like the levels in 2008 to return. The Asian traffic is especially recovering, import-wise, as is traffic on the North American lanes.
-For SAS Cargo, competition is strong in the Swedish market. We do not offer main-deck capacity so carriers like Singapore Airlines Cargo have an edge also in the North Atlantic traffic, says Mr Sundin.
