Dec 18, 2009 (newstodate): The runways of Russia's airport are in bad shape, according to the country's federal agency for air transport, Rosaviatsia.
The agency says that up to 50 percent of all runway in the country are in need of immediate reconstruction and resurfacing, but financial strains have put the brakes on planned projects.
In the budgets for 2009 were urgent repairs of the runways of airports at Samara, Yuzhno Sakhalinsk, Kaliningrad, Makhachkala and Magadan, but none of these projects have been completed as planned.
Reconstruction works on other airports, including Moscow's airports, have been delayed for the same reason - lack of adequate financing.
