Dec 04, 2009 (newstodate): Finnair has big ambitions for further expansion of its Japanese traffic.
Effective from the coming 2010 summer schedule, Finnair plans to operate daily flights from Helsinki to Tokyo and Osaka, as well as four weekly flights to Nagoya, using Airbus A330/A340 on the routes.
Finnair is the only North European airline to offer direct flights to all of Japan's three largest cities Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya.
The increase in frequencies follows after the signing of a new bi-lateral air services agreement between the two countries in September 2009.
The air services agreement also allows Finnair unlimited code sharing rights to Japanese domestic destinations via Osaka and Nagoya and also to three destinations via Tokyo.
In last year's summer program Finnair offered a total of 15 weekly flights between the two markets, including four flights per week from Helsinki to Tokyo and Nagoya, and daily flights to Osaka.
