Dec 11, 2009 (newstodate): While operations are still suspended after only few flights, Korean Air Cargo's freighter service at Sweden's Luleaa Kallax Airport will certainly be restored.
That is, at least, the ambitions of the parties behind the joint-venture, which includes five transport and logistics partners in Sweden, Norway, and Finland: Meyership AS, Norway, Holm Shipping AS, Norway, Wiiks Transport AS, Norway, Kalles Bud och Transport AB, Sweden, and Kalottspedition OY, Finland, alongside the initial Swedish owners NCC, Norrporten och Luleaa County.
-We have not given up hope! says a leading representative from one of these JV partners who prefers to remain anonymous.
-Much effort has been invested in the project for a freighter service to the Far East from Sweden's Luleaa Kallax Airport, and we have certainly not shelved the project even if it currently not in the air. I am convinced that we will see a return of service after Christmas, and probably within the first two months of 2010.
Luleaa Airport has fought intensely for a role in the Europe-to-Asia freighter traffic since at least 2004, targeting the voluminous export of Norwegian salmon to Japan, Korea and other Asian markets.
