Dec 21, 2009 (newstodate): Czech aviation-related companies have cast their eyes on an emerging airport project at Kulon Progo, on Java Island in Indonesia.
A Czech company, MottMacDonald has worked out a feasibility study on the planned airport, and several Czech companies will send a delegation to the city early in 2010 to probe deeper into the business potentials.
The existing Adisucipto International Airport was partly damaged during the large earthquake in 2006, and is unable to meet the increasing volumes of traffic expected in the coming years.
A project has therefore been outlined, including the construction of a new passenger terminal and an extension by 300m of the existing 2,200m runway to allow for operations by larger aircraft.
