Dec 09, 2009 (newstodate): The pre-Christmas peak in Finland's export airfreight started rather early this year - and has gained momentum!
-The trend has indeed been surprisingly positive since early November, and the peak is still producing growing export airfreight volumes, says Mika Seppaelae, Lufthansa Cargo Finland sales manager.
-Finland's export air cargo volumes are still below last year's levels, down about 20 percent till October, but definitely on the rise.
-Also noteworthy is the fact that air freight is at least performing better than sea freight that has seen volumes down by 35 percent during the same period. So even if we lost some shipments to sea transportation in the earlier parts of the year, the trend has not been sustained.
-Finland's main economic indicators are again positive, and this year's Q3 was actually marked by positive growth after a long period of decline. We see an over-all improvement in the Finnish industrial exports, with growth in volumes not only in the traditional key industries like electronics, but on a broader scale.
-We now expect the recovery to endure through January and February, 2010, as well, and how it will develop after the Chinese New Year will then be crucial, says Mr Seppaelae.
