Dec 10, 2009 (newstodate): Complaints will bring no improvements. But after all, 2009 has indeed not been so bad at all, says one Estonian freight forwarder.
-Seen from our company's performance in 2009, it has been a rather good year. Volumes are a bit down on last year, but not much, says Lauri Reinholm, IK Speditor.
-We have admittedly lost a few customers in 209, but they have been replaced by new contracts, so we are just about in balance. Right now we have more imports than exports, due to the Christmas season, but exports have been doing quite well also, with less traffic to South America and Africa, but almost unchanged in the direction of Europe, the States and the Far East.
-Direct air traffic at Estonia's Tallinn Airport has dropped in 2009 due to the effects from the world economic crisis, but as we are rather close to Helsinki and Stockholm, delays by RFS are seldom more than 24 hours, and in the case of Helsinki even less. And there are excellent direct connections especially to China and the Far East at both Helsinki and Stockholm, so we are rather well provided with cargo uplift capacity.
-We have reduced staff only slightly in 2009, and based on our performance this year we are rather confident about prospects for 2010 as well, says Mr Reinholm.
