Dec 17, 2009 (newstodate): The Estonian government is reportedly inviting SAS to talks about the future ownership of the country's national carrier, Estonian Air.
SAS owns 49 percent of the stake in Estonian Air and has long ago announced its interest in selling out as it did not succeed in winning a majority as a precondition to continued interest in the airline.
The Estonian state owns 34 and a private investment bank, Cresco, 17 percent of the shares.
The parties will now meet early in 2010 to sort things out.
If the Estonian state ends up with regaining full ownership of Estonian Air, this could be part of preparations to set up a pan-Baltic carrier, with Latvia's airBaltic as the back-bone and Riga Airport as the prime hub in the Baltic region.
