Dec 04, 2009 (newstodate): Since March 25, 2009, the Czech cargo handling company Skyport had been active at Slovakia's Bratislava Airport - and business has performed satisfactorily considering the general down-turn in the air cargo industry.
-Air cargo volumes handled during the first half year dropped by 20 percent, y-o-y, but since then the business has been recovering, with volumes during July-October only about 1.5 percent down on 2008. This is, of course, still not enough to cover up for the full-year loss, says Kamil Slavik, Skyport CEO.
-We have invested heavily in our operation at Bratislava, now providing ULD handling, new heavy cargo handling equipment and a new X-ray machine, which supports the increasing demand for our regulated agent services.
-New on-line customer airline with Skyport at Bratislava is Aeroflot, and new customers for our RFS are Iberia, Continental, Air Cargo Germany, Qatar and Aviapartner, says Mr Slavik.
Skyport acquired the Slovak company Cargologic spol. s r.o. in Bratislava, merging the two companies under the Skyport name and retaining Cargologic's Miriam Kanckova as managing director.
