Dec 09, 2009 (newstodate): Competition in airport handling will reportedly make its debut at Riga International Airport from the start of 2010.
A new handling company, North Hub Handling, has been set up in August this year, owned by Baltijas Aviacijas Sistemas that is also behind the Latvian carrier airBaltic.
The new service provider will start operations from January 1, 2010, with airBaltic as its launch customers, sources say.
So far, airBaltic, like other airlines operating at the airport has been serviced by the airport's own handling company.
With some 100 staff, North Hub Handling is managed by Janis Balkens as CEO.
