Nov 11, 2009 (newstodate): Swedish regional airport Orebro is fighting a tough battle for air cargo operations in 2009.
-The first half of the year has been really bad, and while we do see some slight indications of early recovery from this autumn, the outlook remains rather bleak, says Haakan Nilsson, Orebro Airport cargo manager.
-We managed to set new cargo volumes record in 2008 for the third year running, handling a total of 30,293 tonnes of cargo, up 19.6 percent on volumes in 2007. But volumes in 2009 will be far below these levels.
-The volumes of freighter operations have dropped significantly, and now primarily consist of military flight operations while commercial freighter operations have been few in 2009.
-We have, though, just had a Boeing 747 freighter operating for Ericsson from Sweden to Vietnam and more Vietnam-flights are planned but they may depart from Stockholm Arlanda instead of from Orebro Airport, says Mr Nilsson.
