Nov 13, 2009 (newstodate): Work is progressing on modernizing Russia's Astrakhan Narimanovo Airport.
The airport, managed and operated by the Russian company Novaport, is to renovate its airport building during 2010-2012, under a USD3.5 mio project.
The modernisation projects will be designed and implemented by Novaport, aiming at making the airport an important hub and logistics center for passenger and cargo traffic to Central Asia and the Middle East.
The runway, that remains Russian state property, is also to be ungraded in a project including resurfacing the 2,500 m runway and replacing of its lighting systems, the taxiways and the apron areas.
During the first six months of this year, the airport has seen passenger volumes up by 95 percent, while cargo volume have increased by 78 percent.
