Nov 13, 2009 (newstodate): Russia's ministry of transportation has raised the issue of some western carrier's right of operating routes to Russia.
The issue concerns airlines that change ownership through acquisition by carriers of other nationalities.
At take is Austrian Airlines that is now taken over by Germany's Lufthansa, and Russia has claimed the carrier has lost its right to operate into Russian under the bilateral air services agreement between Austria and Russia.
Other similar cases include SWISS and Brussels Airlines.
The Russian attitude is considered a reaction to EU requirements to airline ownership, where a EU carrier will lose its right to operate under EU rules if non-EU parties take a controlling share in their stake.
