Nov 25, 2009 (newstodate): While Serbia failed in attempts to attract bidders in the tender for privatisation of its national carrier JAT, the airline is still of interest as a potential partner.
Both Turkish Airlines and Aeroflot are reportedly approaching JAT with offers of partnership that would also help JAT to renovate its obsolete and aging aircraft fleet.
Sources also say that the Greek Marfin Investment Group has contacted Serbia with an offer for acquisition of a stake in JAT.
After the aborted tender process earlier this year, the Serb state has said that while it will not open a fresh privatisation tender but consider instead a potential sale of JAT provided a satisfactory offer is on the table.
