Nov 25, 2009 (newstodate): As most companies in the airfreight business, the Lithuanian ground handling company Litcargus has found 2009 a challenge - but not that bleak after all.
-Of course, 2009 was a difficult year. Not so bad as some Lithuanian market specialists claim, but quite tough, says Darius Spetyla, Litcargus Cargo Center Cargo Manager.
-Now we can see some positive signs, especially concerning the import shipments. In the beginning of 2009 import volumes decreased by around 50 percent, but now volumes are slightly up again, and I hope it will grow in the future as well.
-As for export airfreight, the decease has not been so marked. Acutally we have seen some increase. And now it is again on the same level as it was in 2008.
-During the crisis, some customers left the airfreight business, some stopped their activities for this difficult period, but the major part of customers and agents are still in business. Volumes may not be so high, but for this period it is OK, says Mr Spetyla.
Established in 1993, Litcargus was the first independent privately-owned ground handling company in Vilnius International Airport, with Lufthansa as its launch customer.
