Nov 24, 2009 (newstodate): Kazakhstan's Almaty Airport is seeing sustained growth as a freighter pit-stop on routes between Europe and Asia.
Cargoitalia is now calling at Almaty six timer per week with MD-11F flights between Milan and Hong Kong, and Evergreen has started Boeing 747 operations through Almaty up to five times per week.
From October 26, 2009, Cargolux routes up to ten flights per week through Almaty, while Air China Cargo has launched once-weekly Boeing 747 freighter flights on the route Dubai-Almaty-Shanghai with full commercial rights at Almaty.
From June 1, 2009, Russia's Krasnoyarsk Airport became the technical stop-over hub for Lufthansa Cargo's freighter flights to China, replacing Astana, but Lufthansa Cargo still operates nine weekly flights on the route between Frankfurt and Hong Kong through Astana.
Another German operator, Air Cargo Germany is now also operating through Astana with two weekly Boeing 747 flights.
