Nov 27, 2009 (newstodate): Iceland's Keflavik Airport is to start an acquisition program to upgrade its ground services equipment.
The airport has so far relied on the equipment left by the US military that abandoned its base adjoining the civil airport of Keflavik by the end of September, 2006.
In December 2009 Keflavik Airport will take delivery of a couple of new Scania/Schmidt Snow Combination Plow and Towing Sweepers that are being obtained by a joint purchasing program with ISAVIA.
Five more similar sweeper combination equipment will be received in the next few years.
These acquisitions will mark the beginning of a program to replace aging airfield support equipment on lease from the U.S. Navy.
