Nov 12, 2009 (newstodate): Hungary's FlyBalaton Airport has suspended operations as its operator has been placed under liquidation.
Originally a decommissioned Soviet air force base, Sarmellek International Airport as its was earlier named was taken over on a 99-year lease contract in 2004 by Cape Clear Aviation - a consortium owned by British and Irish private individuals, Roxino Investments and the Budapest-based property company Quadrator.
The operator announced that the airport would be closed during the off-season winter period, but reopen again in 2010 - which is now uncertain.
