Nov 04, 2009 (newstodate): The French company ADPI has landed a contract with Iraq's Ministry of Transport to carry out the development studies for a new international airport to be built between the cities of Kerbala, Najaf and Babylon, south of Baghdad.
The airport will be designed to offer a capacity of six mio passengers in its first phase, and up to 35 mio when fully developed.
The first phase of the project will comprise construction of a passenger terminal, a control tower, runways and taxiways, a MET centre and other facilities.
Expectations are that the first phase of the airport project will be completed by 2014.
