Nov 09, 2009 (newstodate): Finnair Cargo seems to be finally on the safe side again after a 4.8 percent y-o-y increase in cargo volumes in October 2009.
The carrier handled a total of 9,307 tonnes of cargo in October, 6,324 tonnes of which was Asian cargo that grew by 8.6 percent, y-o-y.
As capacity in the Asian segment was cut by 13 percent, the cargo load factor improved by 20.8 percentage-points to 90.2 percent leaving little room for further improvement unless capacity is restored.
The carrier's Asian passenger volume that decides whether to increase or decrease capacity was however down by 12 percent, y-o-y, in November.
With 748 tonnes, North Atlantic cargo was still 1.4 percent down on last year, and domestic cargo, 240 tonnes, was also down by 20.4 percent.
European cargo, 1,899 tonnes, increased by 7.3 percent, and Finnair Cargo is now no longer operating freighters.
