Nov 09, 2009 (newstodate): Grozny Severny Airport, in Chechnya, has now obtained certification by the Russian Interstate Aviation authorities.
The airport has thus been certified to handle international traffic after a comprehensive modernization.
The airport now has a 2.500m runway, extended by 100m, new Russian-made ILS equipment, new runway and airfield lighting systems, and an automated MET system.
A permanent customs inspection office was opened at Grozny Severny Airport in October, 2009.
So far three Russian airlines, including Groznyavia, are providing flights to Moscow, still the only route serving the airport.
