Oct 02, 2009 (newstodate): Sweden's Stockholm Arlanda Airport sees encouraging light at the end of the tunnel concerning its cargo performance in 2009.
-Latest figures covering the first eight months of this year show a decline by 33.6 percent in total cargo volumes, trucked and flown combined, says Sara Wedin, LFV Account Manager Air Cargo.
-We must, however, bear in mind that the first half of this year is up against an H1 in 2008 that was still marked by extraordinarily high volumes actually at record levels in Stockholm Arlanda's history. A direct comparison may therefore be misleading.
-What we can see now is that the trends in the airport's cargo volumes have stabilized, and we really expect volumes to grow again during the latter part of this year, especially from this autumn. But growth rates will definitely remain relatively modest, considering the sustained effect from the global economical downturn, says Ms Wedin.
