Oct 20, 2009 (newstodate): Details on the new freighter service at Oslo Gardermoen Airport are now confirmed.
-Pending approvals from the Norwegian and US authorities, Sundt Air Atlanta will lift off by the second week of November, hopefully, or at the earliest thereafter, says Arild Jaabaek, Sundt Atlanta Skybridge managing director.
-Plans are to offer two weekly rotations on a route from Oslo Gardermoen to New York and from there to Miami, returning from Miami to Oslo.
-The aircraft is a nose-loading Boeing 747-200F ideally suited for the purpose and operated on an ACMI contract with Air Atlanta Icelandic that is, together with the Norwegian carrier Sundt Air behind the joint venture.
-The freighter will be connected to a comprehensive road feeder service in Scandinavia and will also connect to 43 destinations in USA, Central and South America through a network of partnerships with other airlines and providers.
-Cargo sales will be provided by ourselves in the Norwegian market. In Sweden sales on Sundt Atlanta Skybridge will be provided under a GSA contract with Scandinavian AirBridge AB, in the US market sales will be undertaken by Heavy-Weight as GSA, while a GSA in the Danish market is yet to be named.
-Contrary to earlier speculations, we will not be a "salmon freighter service" but aim at attracting all kind of cargo between the Scandinavian and American markets. Finland is also under consideration and we may name a GSA there as well, but this market is strongly dominated by its national carrier and still under research, says Mr Jaabaek.
