Oct 15, 2009 (newstodate): It still remains unclear when the planned freighter flights from Norway to the USA will lift off.
Industry sources claim that October 26, 2009, is the target date, but so far the company, managed by Arild Jaabak, has not yet formally applied with the Norwegian CAA for a license to operate on the route.
As Norway is not yet formally a party to the US-EU air agreement, the planned operation will require formalities to be settled before a license can be issued.
Under normal circumstances the Norwegian authorities would require about six weeks to complete an application process ending up with a license.
The planned service is a JV between the Norwegian carrier Sundt Air and Iceland's Air Atlanta that has based one Boeing 747-200F aircraft at Oslo Gardermoen Airport for the purpose.
The business idea is to provide capacity to lift Norwegian exports of Salmon to the US market in combination with other cargo shipments, including Swedish export air cargo.
