Oct 16, 2009 (newstodate): The Russian carrier Aeroflot is reportedly to finally phase out it fleet of six IL-96-300 aircraft.
Instead the airline will lease three MD-11 aircraft, sources say.
On August 22, 2005, Aeroflot grounded its entire fleet of IL-96-300 after technical deficiencies in systems and brakes, and the type's air worthiness certificate was only recovered in October the same year.
The grounding of Russia's IL-96-300 fleet eventually caused Aeroflot to cancel its order for a further batch of six aircraft of the type.
