Oct 09, 2009 (newstodate): Several Russian airport may well abandon ambitious plans for future international hub status.
Speaking at the ongoing Russian Wings Conference, Russia's Deputy Transport Minister reportedly said that Russia really does need only one hub airport in the western part of the country, and another in the eastern part of the country, given today's developments in international aviation.
The deputy minister said that Moscow might well serve the western part, and Khabarovsk or Vladivostok the eastern part with international hub capabilities.
Among airports with hub-ambitions are the Sverdlovsk region's Koltsovo Airport and Krasnoyarsk Airport that have both invested significantly in modernisation and expansion projects.
