Oct 06, 2009 (newstodate): Rumors of a new carrier, Lithuania Express to set up flights from Vilnius, Lithuania, to eight destinations from this year already are now grounded.
-We have absolutely no intentions of entering the Lithuanian aviation market, and while we have noted speculations in the press we can safely deny any such plans on our part, says Matthias Imsland, Iceland Express CEO.
Several media has reported that Lithuania Express would operate at least 20 flights per week from Vilnius Airport to Amsterdam, Berlin and other cities.
-Actually, the rumors even induced several applications for jobs from people in Lithuania, says Mr Imsland.
On the other hand, a spokesperson for Lithuania's Vilnius Airport confirms to newstodate that talks have indeed been held between the airport and representatives from Iceland Express.
-During the meeting they presented their business plans for Vilnius and Lithuania, but after that there was not any other move from their side to actually launch the planned flights. Until today we have had any further news from or about them, the spokesperson says.
