Oct 20, 2009 (newstodate): Lithuania may soon see the emergence of a new low-cost carrier.
A project group working to set up Lithuania Express is currently evaluating the market and doing critical research to assess business opportunities.
-We are studying the Lithuanian civil aviation market, and I expect this phase to last for another about six weeks, says Thorsteinn Gudnason, Lithuania Express Project manager, and himself a member of the group of potential investors in the carrier.
-Pending the outcome of this phase, we would be able to launch operations by early 2010, and among the destinations currently under research are Berlin, Amsterdam and Copenhagen.
Contrary to earlier speculative reports on the planned new carrier, Lithuanian Express will not be connected to Iceland Express.
-We, the group of investors behind the new venture project, sold our shares in Iceland Express already in 2005, so Lithuanian Express has no relations whatsoever to Iceland Express but will be an entirely independent Lithuanian carrier, says Mr Gudnason.
