Oct 07, 2009 (newstodate): Plans for a new airport at Bialystok, Poland, are now maturing after a long period of uncertainty.
Residents and environmentalists have long opposed the city government's plans for the project, but the obstacles may now have been cleard, paving the road towards start of the construction process to turn the small Krywlany Airport into a modern regional aviation complex.
The first phase of the project, expected to be completed in 2010, comprises the construction of a new runway, airnav equipment and airfield lighting systems, while construction of a new passenger terminal will be included in a second phase.
