Oct 20, 2009 (newstodate): Latvia's national carrier airBaltic is suspending traffic on its route between the capital airports of Estonia and Lithuania till next summer schedule.
So far the carrier has been operating five daily flights between Tallinn and Vilnius, but the operations will be suspended to preclude passengers' speculation in cheaper rates on connecting flights, which was a drain on revenues.
airBaltic launched flights between Tallinn and Vilnius on September 15, 2004 five five weekly flights.
The suspension of airBaltic's flights leaves Estonian Air alone on the route with eight weekly flights that are, however, only point-to-point services.
-The move by airBaltic seems driven by factors that indirectly testify to the reason behind the idea to set up a joint pan-Baltic carrier to serve the markets of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, an industry source say.
