Oct 07, 2009 (newstodate): In the latest statistics on its performance in September, Finnair Cargo can find some comfort and grounds for optimism towards the end of this year.
In September 2009 the carrier handled a total of 8,561 tonnes of cargo which was a decline by only one percent, compared to last year that was of course also marked by strong depression.
The easing of decline through 2009 was primarily brought about by a two percent increase in Asian loads, totaling 5,778 tonnes.
The Asian tonnage, crucial to Finnair Cargo, was however still down 18.7 percent, y-o-y, after the first nine months of this year.
Second largest in volumes, the European traffic was down 1.8 percent, y-o-y, to 1,753 tonnes while the nine-month total was down 13.2 percent to 13,614 tonnes.
All other segments proved easing rates of decline, compared to nine-month totals, except for the less important domestic cargo that was down 19.2 percent in September and down 10.8 percent Jan-Sep.
