Oct 01, 2009 (newstodate): The Faroe Islands' Vagar Airport is today arranging an informative meeting regarding plans for the expansion of the airport.
During the meeting, the airport will present the various runway extension options and plans for expansion of the passenger terminal.
Invited to the meeting are members of the local parliament, cabinet ministers, town council members as well as airline representatives, airport staff and the general public.
On the table are plans to extend the runway by 350 m to 1,600 m, which will allow operations without weight penalty with larger aircraft than the BAe 146/Avro aircraft currently used by its airline operator, Atlantic Airways, and an extension of the passenger terminal by 5,700 sq.m.
The planned works must be completed before the delivery by the end of 2011 of the first Airbus A319 aircraft to Atlantic Airways.
