Oct 26, 2009 (newstodate): A permanent customs inspection office has been opened at Grozny's Severny Airport, in Chechnya.
The new facilitate will enable the faster handling of air cargo imports and exports at the airport that has so far been handled by customs authorities on an ad-hoc basis.
So far the airport is only served by carriers offering flights to Moscow, but hopes are that the airport will now also be able to attract foreign operators, including cargo airlines.
The airport is home base for the Chechen carrier Grozny Avia that operates two YAK-42 aircraft and launched flights on the route between Grozny and Moscow Vnukovo Airport on June 10, 2008.
