Jan 29, 2009 (newstodate): Russian carrier Polet Airline may take three of the IL-96-400T freighter aircraft originally slated for delivery to Aeroflot Cargo, sources say.
The eventual decision by Aeroflot Cargo on the six IL-96-400T aircraft ordered in 2007 for delivery from 2008 has long be pending as Aeroflot Cargo claims that the aircraft do not meet its expectations and requirements.
Aeroflot Cargo has however been obliged to order Russian freighters in order to get green lights for the import of its fleet of MD-11F aircraft that have now replaced the ageing DC-10-40 freighters.
Aeroflot Cargo may thus have to accept the delivery of the remaining three Russian freighters in order to keep the balance with the Russian state demands.
According to the original plans, Aeroflot Cargo should have received the first IL-96-400T aircraft in 2008 already, with two more to follow shortly after, and with the remaining three to follow suit in 2010.
