Jan 7, 2009 (newstodate): The heavily-indebted Lithuanian carrier flyLAL is still in the air, but the net is tightening.
Sources say fears were that flyLAL would cease operating before yearend, but the carrier has remained in business, though.
One of the major debts is owed to the state-owned Vilnius Airport.
flyLAL has tried to call for the state to take over the company, but so far without success.
To make things even worse, SAS is reportedly mulling plans for a return with flights into Vilnius, further adding to the intense competition already in the Lithuanian market from the Latvian carrier airBaltic.
