Jan 8, 2009 (newstodate): After Icelandic-owned Sterling's bankruptcy last autumn, the Sterling brand returns to the skies again in 2009.
The brand name Sterling and selected parts of the former Sterling network has been acquired by Danish family-owned carrier Cimber Air that plans to launch its first Sterling flights from next week, already, under the name of Cimber Sterling.
Initially operating two Boeing 737 aircraft, Cimber plans to add four more Boeing aircraft in 2009.
Cimber Sterling will operate flights on some 20 European routes from Copenhagen Airport and Billund Airport, Denmark.
From Copenhagen Cimber Sterling will fly to London Gatwick, Nice, Malaga, Firenze, Edinburgh, Venedig, Barcelona, Rome, Napoli, Alicante, Athens, Crete, Mallorca, Split, Montpellier and Burgas.
New routes from Billund will be operated to Malaga, Rome and Nice.
Earlier, Cimber Air has announced plans to open routes from Billund to Prague and Paris, too.
