Jan 29, 2009 (newstodate): Serbia's Nis Konstantin the Great International Airport sees gloomy prospects ahead if the current fall in aviation continues.
Re-opened in October, 2003, after being closed and damaged during the Balkan civil wars and then re-contructed by Norwegian assistance and fundings, Nis Airport is currently served by only JAT with two flights to Zurich, Switzerland, which is inadequate to maintain the airport on business conditions.
Nis Airport had seen a future as an alternative to Belgrade Airport in bad weather conditions, and JAT had plans to open new routes to Basel, Vienna, Paris, Frankfurt, Stuttgart and Dusseldorf, while Montenegro Airlines planned to add flights from its base at Podgorica Airport, Montenegro, to Nis.
