Jan 23, 2009 (newstodate): The Scandinavian cargo markets are now fully in place for e-freight operations, and SAS Cargo, the country's leading airline in e-freight, is readying to take the next steps in the process.
-Denmark, Norway and Sweden are fully capable of handling e-freight after the successful completion of the project phase, says Steen Otterstrom, SAS Cargo, responsible for e-freight implementation.
-Any Scandinavian forwarder, handling agent or other links in the chain can now implement e-freight standards based on the procedures and framework firmly established, enjoying the benefits and cost-savings from the paper-less cargo transport. In Norway alone, forwarders and airlines can already save the issuance and carriage of some 30-40,000 paper AWBs annually in the domestic cargo segment.
-We are now looking out into the world for markets of importance to Scandinavian shippers and forwarders, to seek further expansion of our e-freight business. Dubai, Hong Kong, Singapore, Germany, France and the UK are fully e-freight compatible, USA is opening up as well, and we are looking forward to e-freight capabilities to spread into important markets like India and China.
IATA has set 2010 as the target for full world-wide implementation of e-freight.
