Jan 19, 2009 (newstodate): Mongolian carrier Eznis Airways is finalising negotiations with ATR for acquisition of an ATR 42-500 aircraft.
In the air since December 6, 2006, Eznis Airways currently operates a fleet of three Saab 340B aircraft, and expects to introduce the ATR 42-500 in service by May, 2009.
The aircraft will reportedly be used for domestic flights as well as for international flights to Irkusk and Ulan Ude, Russia, Hailar and Harbin in China, and Ust-kamenogorsk in Kazakhstan.
Bombardier was taking part in the run-up for the order, but was eventually beaten by ATR's offer.
Eznis Airways has earlier announced its decision to acquire five new turboprop aircraft besides signing an order for delivery of up to seven leased regional jet aircraft to operate flights on routes from its base at Ulaan Bataar Airport to destinations in neighbouring contries.
