Jan 15, 2009 (newstodate): As part of its efforts to achieve 25 million euros of savings
in personnel expenses, corresponding to around five per cent of total personnel costs, Finnair is downsizing the cargo staff.
In the cargo companies, around 20 jobs will be cut and around 40 employees laid off until further notice due to a sharp fall in cargo demand and a decline in the volume of work.
Around 20 employees will be transferred to new jobs, and in addition lay-offs of differing durations are being planned for 300 other cargo employees during 2009.
Finnair started negotiation with cargo employees in November last year, and a conclusion was reached on Tuesday this week.
In November, 2007, Finnair separated its cargo handling and terminal activities into a fully-owned company Finnair Cargo Terminal Operations, retaining only cargo sales and marketing within Finnair Cargo, managed by Antero Lahtinen as managing director and Senior VP on the Finnair Group Board of Management.
