Jan 13, 2009 (newstodate): FedEx has decided to activate its options for a further batch of 15 Boeing 777 freighter aircraft.
This will bring the total number of new freighters to 30, following on FedEx' original order in 2006 for 15 Boeing 777 freighters.
FedEx was originally slated to become the world's first operator of the Airbus A380F freighter, with orders for 10 aircraft and options for a further 10 units.
FedEx was to take three A380F by the end of 2008, three more in 2009, three in 2010 and the final aircraft in 2011, but the delays to the A380 program led FedEx to cancel its order in November, 2006, turning to Boeing instead, and Airbus later shelved the A380 freighter program after booking 27 firm orders.
